This was entered in the Great Pacific NW Quilt Fest and received an Honorable Mention in Traditional Mixed. One of the judges comments was "binding needs improvement".  Okay, I exhibit regularly and also judge quilt shows so I knew EXACTLY what she was referring to. I still have not figured out why the properties of silk and cotton are so different but will leave that up to others to ponder.

I really did not want to have to completely remove the binding and replace it with new fabric. Lucky me, the shop was all out of this colour of silk. I had also zigzag stitched the raw edges of the binding after I applied it to the quilt edge. I was thankful not to have to pick out all that thread.

I think the reflective properties of silk makes a so-so binding worse. After asking advice from everyone I knew, I opted to fuse a thin strip of Palmer/Pletsch PerfectFuse interfacing to the binding and then hand stitched the binding back down. It vastly improved the original binding but I am still on the quest for perfect silk binding!
